See that pretty red blob? See how it cuts right through southern Mississippi? Yep, that’s where I live. From what I hear, Reed Timmer is on his way to our area in the Dominator. That is both awesome (he’s loud and obnoxious, but he’s my hero when it comes to storm chasing because he knows his shit) and a bit nerve wracking (he wouldn’t be coming here just to visit). If my next post comes from up in a tree, y’all will know why!

Apparently that’s headed our way, too. 18 centimetres of snow and 15 millimetres of rain are expected over the next few days.

Stay safe!

I’m supposed to get some weather coming my way, but nothing that serious I don’t think.

Careful? Hell if I didn’t have to work I would be out chasing too! I understand though and thanks for looking out. Will do.

Lol! Nah that isn’t snow, that is severe weather. Strong chance of tornadoes today.

Indeed. Stay safe. They are saying things will pop off around 2pm cst for us.

Indeed. Pink pretty much means “yeah, hope you weren’t needing your stuff anymore, or your car, or your house...."

Could get interesting. A little over 3 years ago we had an EF4 go right through the middle of town. Thankfully nobody was killed.

Put a spoiler on your house. If race cars have shown me anything it is that if you have a spoiler it’ll keep the car on the ground. Sure that is true for houses as well?

Pinks are super rare. They mean >60% chance of multiple long track tornados or consistent hurricane force land based winds. Only a couple days a year will they show up on the map. Red is still nasty.

Looks nasty, stay safe down there. I think that’s the same system that’s causing everyone to freak out up here for Wednesday-Thursday, but it’s just supposed to be ice and snow by then, which I greatly prefer to tornadoes.

Hope the worst of it passes you by!

Between 11:30 and noon over here. We’ve already battened down the hatches in anticipation of the wind. They closed all the schools in the area. A few years ago, a tornado narrowly missed a local school about a block from my house. It destroyed a house across the street from the school, jumped over the school, then came down in our neighborhood, destroying three houses and damaging five others, including mine. I found out when the security company called and said that both the smoke/fire and the perimeter alarms were going off. I had to park at the school and walk in due to all the trees being down.

Figured as much. I don’t know what "real" storms are like. Your regular storms down there probably make Hurricane Sandy look like a joke.

Indeed. We got pink when that EF 4 went through the middle of town in 2013.

Yeah they are closing schools here around 12 to 1. I am glad that they are taking better precautions now as opposed to when I was a kid.

Damn that is crazy. At least your place was spared.

Yep, same one. Yeah hopefully y’all won’t get what they say we might get. Thanks! Hopefully nothing too bad will happen but we shall see.

About six inches of snow and 3/5ths of an inch of rain.

We were on the edge of the tornado and it came from the back of the property, so the back of the house caught the brunt of it. I had to replace part of the fence, a couple of the posts supporting the back porch, a window, all of the siding on the back of the house (the rest is brick), a bunch of facia board trim, and my garage door.

One of the destroyed houses was clobbered by a really big tree.

Kinja'd!!!

The other two lost most of their roofs. The one below was punctured by a flying branch, giving the wind access to the attic.

Kinja'd!!!

One of the older homes around the corner was left with nothing but walls.

Kinja'd!!!

I was lucky. Our damage was relatively minor. The guy next door to me lost one small piece of facia trim. The next house down the street had no damage at all.

The strangest stories were from the house below. That truck was parked in the driveway when the tornado hit. The wind blew it into his yard. See that smashed garage door? A branch hit it, letting the wind into the garage. His wife’s car was rotated 45° inside the garage.

Yeah things like Katrina are why I didn’t understand what made people freak out about Sandy. Sure some people lost their homes and that is bad. But during something like Katrina, people lost much more than that. People are not nearly as replaceable as homes and cars are!

Thank you kind sir. I actually wish the US would just convert to Metric. It makes a lot more sense for everyone to be on the same standards, global economy and all that. Dealing with imperial units in engineering problems is the worst..
